I
have been a presenter with Meridian FM since it began broadcasting
in November 2006. My first contact with the industry came in 1990
during a brief spell as a scriptwriter for overseas radio.
As
a child I would spend hours sitting on the floor in the junk room
playing my parents 45's on their portable record player. My appreciation
for how music can stir the soul began when I was, er…very young,
and I made up an awesome(!) dance routine to Queen's Bohemian
Rhapsody - which my parents had to sit through and endure every
Sunday night at 6.50pm for nine weeks! (those who remember the
Top 20 on the radio…). I am a Maid of Kent and was born in Ashford.
I moved to East Grinstead in November 2001. In WW2 my grandfather
had skin graft treatment at the Queen Victoria Hospital so the
town was always 'on the map' for me.
My
show includes fun competitions, local features and the kind of
music to help you make the most of that lazy, restful Sunday afternoon
feeling - before thoughts of Monday morning come creeping in.
So join me. It will be great to have your company.
Life
before Meridian fm - what were you up to?
In 2006 I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree from Chelsea
College of Art & Design.
The
first music track I bought was…
'What I've got in mind' by Billie Jo Spears (Hey, I wanted Disco
Duck but it was out of stock! Her's was the only name in the charts
that this little girl recognised!) My
first serious purchase; 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' by ABBA (Ah,
ha!)
I
don't feel like dancing - what will you play to get me on the
dance floor?
Anything by The Jacksons/Jackson 5
Which
song sums up your journey so far?
'Can't stop' by the Red Hot Chilis; because 'this life is more
than just a read thru'.
A
day at the races or a night at the opera?
A day at the races.
The invite says fancy dress, who are you going as?
Definitely Uma Thurman in her 'Kill Bill' yellow jumpsuit outfit
- minus a real Samurai sword, of course but with killer heels!
(Not that I've actually seen the film..!).
What
song have you listened to the most?
'Brand New Day' by Sting ('I'm the plough and you're the land…
I'm the flag pole to your nation…' gets me every time).
I
hate to ask...but whose autograph did you insist on getting?
I'm too shy to ask for an autograph - I like to say 'Hi' to them
instead, but as a teenager I had three letters of encouragement
from Radio 1 DJ Simon Bates and in 2003 one from Michael Palin
- bless 'em. Does that count?
Which
song do you wish you'd written?
'Can you feel the love tonight?' by Tim Rice (& Elton John) because
anyone one who can put the words 'twisting kaleidoscope' into
their lyrics must be a genius.
My philosophy on life in one word is…
Persevere
I
have taken part in an extreme sport… (If not, which would you
consider doing?)
Me?! My idea of a 'thrill ride' is getting over-zealous on a swing,
although for the right bribe I would love to paraglide.
If I could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner for some great
conversation I would ask…
Jeremy Clarkson … and we have said 'Hi' to each other.
I think the most overrated/underrated thing or person is…
Underrated; postmen, milkmen, dustmen… anyone who gets up early
for the daily convenience of others. Overrated; Ricky Gervais,
Mexican re-fried beans.
