9th 2006 - COMMUNITY RADIO SHOULD BE SUPPORTED (East
Grinstead Courier)
The
Town looks set to get its own community radio station at the end
of November.
This
is down to the hard work and vision of a small group of people who
have dedicated their time and effort to different aspects of the
project.
East
Grinstead is a vibrant town and a radio station would be a welcome
introduction to the community.
Those
who have worked so hard to get the project to the stage it is at
now are to be commended for their passion.
But
this is a community station and needs community input to make it
a success. A number of local businesses have already become involved
and local people have shown an interest, with many signing up to
present or produce shows.
There
are still spaces for volunteers as the station nears its launch
date and we should support the vision of the few that have brought
the project this far, with the good of the community the central
reason for their selfless efforts.
Meridian
FM will not make a profit, it is not a commercial station, it will
provide music and local information, working with local schools,
charities and organisations.
Surely
this project deserves the support of residents of East Grinstead
and the surrounding areas?
Let
us hope many get behind the few to help them provide a long and
healthy future for this impressive venture.
