Looking
for Yesterday
Wednesday 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Music from the 'Golden Years' of popular song featuring the best
of British and American Dance & Swing Bands from the 1930's, 40's
& 50's. Former household names including; Ambrose, Carroll Gibbons
the 'Jacks' Hylton, Jackson, Payne, Harris, etc. Benny Goodman,
Harry James, Les Brown, Dorsey Bros and many others. 'Quality'
singers; Bing, Frank, Nat, Ella, Peggy, Rosemary, Doris, etc.
Finally, great orchestras and their conductor/arrangers; Robert
Farnon, Andre Kostelanetz, Percy Faith, George Melachrino, Sidney
Torch, Peter Yorke etc. Perhaps a few film and show soundtracks
too!
Malcolm is founder
and presenter for Radio Queen Vic (Our Local Hospital) having
produced over 1,000 shows since the patients service was launched
in 1986. Two hours of genuine NOSTALGIA bringing back the glorious
sounds of a bygone era played by 'proper' musicians at a time
when today a good 'tune' is sadly lacking. A chance to remember
the 'good old Days' of your youth or discover sounds you didn't
know existed! Guaranteed to be a 'Rock & Synthesised-free' zone
with a strong content of normality often lacking in today's popular
music scene.
Looking forward to your company!
Life
before Meridian FM - what were you up to?
Photographer
I
don't feel like dancing - what will you play to get me on the
dance floor?
Anything by one of the PROPER 1930's Dance Bands - PERFECT for
dancing.
Which
song sums up your journey so far?
Meet a Lucky Guy!
A
day at the races or a night at the opera?
Neither!
I
wish I had invented…
The gramophone
I
hate to ask…but whos autograph did you insist on getting?
Alan Dell
Which
song do you wish you had written?
Anything by George Gershwin
It's
my round - what are you having?
Orange Juice
Je
ne regrette rien - et vous?
I wish I had travelled more.
We've
been a great audience - how will you send us home smiling?
Hopefully, the whole programme will have achieved this!!
I
have taken part in an extreme sport…(If not, which would you consider
doing?)
Living
If
you could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner for some great
conversation I would ask…
The late (great) ALAN DELL presenter on Radio 2.
I think the most overrated person is Amy Winehouse.
