How did I get involved with Meridian FM? We have to go way back in time to answer that one, to the Lions’ Club Mayfair on the High Street in East Grinstead in 2007 while we were still broadcasting under the RSLs (Restricted Service Licence) on 87.7 Meridian FM.
Tony Peters – a Meridian fm presenter, who was part of the Outside Broadcast team – handed me a Meridian fm leaflet and asked if he could interview me about my acting work on his Sunday show. I agreed. So one Sunday morning, I sat nervously behind the microphone upstairs in our first and former studio at East Court’s Meridian Hall, and Tony asked me to read the weather. He then asked if I’d like to co-present a show with him – which became our Sunday Brunch.
Rosie Mac then invited me to join her and the girls on her new show, Girls Night In. Lee Quinn – one of Meridian fm’s founding members - then asked me to cover quite a few of his Morning Shows: I thus learnt to drive the desks the ‘interesting’ way…! This led to me having my own Rock Chic Show, followed shortly afterwards by my Saturday Morning Show.
I was also regularly out and about with the Outside Broadcast team, became one of four team members doing the all-important music scheduling on the playout system, as well as a myriad of other jobs vital to the running of a radio station, including training up new presenters, being involved in trailer and advert production, to mention but a few.
I was also resident writer for the weekly Courier column. It has been and continues to be a challenging, exciting and hugely enthralling journey. I’m delighted to be a part of 107 Meridian fm and am now looking forward to the next stage of the adventure!
