Sharon Terry
Sharon does the occassional fill-in programme on Meridian FM.
Sharon's involvement in Meridian FM is a great example of where volunteering for a community radio station can take you.
Apart from a very brief brush with radio when she was 23 (writing 'Pause for Thought' scripts for an overseas network) she had no previous experience of the radio industry.
Within two weeks of knocking on Meridian FM's door she was presenting and producing the Lunchtime Show for the first of a total of four RSL transmissions.
She also trained other Meridian FM volunteers to use the Selector playout system in the studio.
Having found her calling, she was able to successfully apply for a place on the MA Radio course at Goldsmiths College. During Sharon's year long study she worked as a 'phone-op' with the production teams for both the Radio 2 Jeremy Vine Show and the Ken Bruce Popmaster Quiz - and was even given a packet of Welsh cakes by the legendary Mr Wogan. Her internship with BBC Radio Kent saw her interview a whole range of people including Lord Adonis (in front of a crowd of commuters at Gillingham train station) and the veteran actor Leslie Philips.
During Sharon's internship with the independent production company 'Above The Title' she shared a cab and a fun chat with Clive Anderson - and she got a wink from actor Alan Davies. (She did also do some work too!)
Since she completed her course in September 2009 she has produced audio for the Meridian FM website, covering local community news.
She enjoys live presenting and is looking forward to getting back into the studio 'saddle'.
With equal passion she produces radio features and is currently working on programme ideas alongside independent producers.
As well as this, Sharon keeps in contact with all the radio colleagues she has worked with.
