"Heroes"
Tuesday 10pm - midnight

The Friday Show
Friday 6pm to 8pm

I have been involved with Meridian FM now since 2007 after finally doing something about a lifelong ambition to work in radio. Although originally from Manchester, I have lived in Sussex since 2002. I am married with a young daughter.

I am passionate about music; I have been in various bands since the age of nine (I was no child prodigy - I didn't even know any guitar chords), I have run a successful mobile disco company for the last ten years, been a resident DJ in a bar in Corfu and I write a column for a magazine.

On 'Heroes', I'll play a blend of all the music I have grown up with: from the sixties music my Dad indoctrinated me with, through my own personal musical discovery during the late 1970's and early 1980's, to the 'Madchester' scene I witnessed first-hand in the late 1980's. As well as this, I still search for the thrill of discovering a new great song too, which is why you'll also hear the best in today's alternative music.

Add a load of self-effacing, inane chatter in an outrageous northern accent and you've pretty much got the whole thing covered.

Life before Meridian fm - what were you up to?

I sat in a darkened room, waiting for a red light to come on.

The first music track I bought was…

Officially? - Picture This by Blondie.
Honestly? - The Floral Dance by Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band

I don't feel like dancing - what will you play to get me on the dance floor?
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. I've seen people dance to that at funerals. Actually, that's not true.

Which song sums up your journey so far?
'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2. It's not meant to be some deep philosophical statement about a deep-rooted insecurity or anything. I'm just a very untidy person.

A day at the races or a night at the opera?
Oh, this is a Queen question! I sang my daughter to sleep the other night. None of the 150 different nursery rhymes I'd specially learnt had any effect, but Bohemian Rhapsody did the trick. That, to me, says all you need to know about Queen. They send 8 week-old babies to sleep. If you want me to answer the question literally, races every time.

I wish I had invented…
Cheese

The invite says fancy dress, who are you going as?
Boris Johnson

What song have you listened to the most?
Probably Regret by New Order. I NEVER tire of that song.

Which song do you wish you'd written?
There are so many! Probably Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. Actually, any Beatles song. Except The Floral Dance, which they didn't write anyway so that's okay.

It's my round - what are you having?
The cheapest, weakest lager in the house please. And a bag of crisps.

Je ne regrette rien - et vous?
Non. You can only regret the things you never try. For example, I once watched the directors cut of Bladerunner after eating four jars of mussels. It was only then that I saw what Ridley Scott was trying to say. He was telling me not to eat so much seafood.

We've been a great audience - how will you send us home smiling?
With my favourite Billy Connolly line "thank you all very much, you've made a very happy man very old"

My philosophy on life in one word is…
Try

I have taken part in an extreme sport… (If not, which would you consider doing?)
I once did a parachute jump for a double dare. Well you can't go back on a double dare can you? I remember panicking that the plane was going to crash when its engine started to splutter as we reached 10,000ft. Then I thought, well so what - I'm jumping out anyway!

If I could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner for some great conversation
I would ask… Brian Eno - the man is a genius.

I think the most overrated/underrated thing or person is…
Underrated - sleep.
Overrated - Led Zeppelin. Sorry, I just don't get it.
