Meridian FM Receive Lottery Grant
Meridian fm’s outside broadcast vehicle ‘Twiggy’ will soon be fully equipped to attend community events thanks to a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’ scheme.
The community radio recently purchased a self contained broadcasting vehicle but was unable to fit it with the necessary equipment because of lack of funds. Now, however, the management team hopes that ‘Twiggy’ will be up and running in time for the Christmas events such as Lingfield Shopping Evening, London Road, East Grinstead Shopping Day and ‘Twas the Sunday before Christmas’ to be held in East Grinstead High Street.
“A significant part of what we do is our work within the community” explains Meridian fm Chairman, Rosie Mac. “We don’t just sit in our cosy studio behind a mic, we also like to get out and about in East Grinstead and the surrounding villages to provide a service to our local area.
This grant is a huge boost and will enable us to equip our outside broadcast van so we can use it to its full potential. We really do thank the ‘Awards for All’ team and the lottery buying public for this generous award”.
Equipment is on order and installation in "Twiggy" will start later in November.
Why Twiggy? Well, the van has a 30 foot pneumatic mast where we fit a UHF radio aerial, known as a 'twig'.
