Battle of the Bands a great success
The first Merdiain FM Battle of the Bands was a proud and loud event, with the winners declared at the end of a great evening of rock music.
Held last Saturday night at the Jubilee Community Centre, nine bands from three local schools took part. Top prize was a recording session at the Youghurt Rooms studio for the winning band. Second prize was a Fender guitar, awarded to the music department of the second placed band.
All nine bands performed in front of an audience of over 250, the first public performance for some of them.
The three locals schools were Imberhorne, Sackville and Notre Dame.
Taking first place were 'On the Stave' from Sackville, with Notre Dame's 'Imperfect Kadence' in second. The runner-up place went to Sackville's 'Before the Call'.
Each band was judged by a panel of three judges and the total scores were very close.
Battle of the Bands was organised by Pru Oliver and Terry Sumner from Meridian GM and the station is grateful for the help received from the team at the Jubilee Community Centre.
The event was also a fund-raiser for Meridian FM, with a total of £742.50 going towards the FM transmitted appeal.
Battle of the Bands was a great success and Meridian FM intend to run the contest again in 2010.
